Moving mountains at work

Moving mountains at work, whether it is building professional relationships, attaining promotions, negotiating salary, and learning the core, transferable skills – sales, negotiation and marketing and other necessary soft skills – is a major challenge that I have identified.

For this reason, I have been developing software consisting of these five core components:

  1. Surveys and journaling – How am I doing?
  2. Goals and metrics – What do I want to achieve? What is success in these goals?
  3. Mentorship and training – I want to improve in this area through targeted practice. What am I doing well at? What can I do better at?
  4. Peer dataset – What are my peers doing to succeed in my field? What are the actions they take that are associated with success? What are the actions that typically lead to failure?
  5. Career discovery – What career is best aligned with my purpose, my talents and skills?

I will discuss each of these components further in this post and the function that they serve. In addition, my vision and the context in which this vision has manifested.

Surveys and feedback

You are working at a job. One of your primary assignments is to prepare a slide-deck and do a presentation to client stakeholders. Your colleagues can assess your presentation and give feedback on what you did well, and where you need to improve. You can also assess your performance and journal how you did on your presentation.

It is possible to assess a deliverable or your day at work. Depending on your preferences, you can share your survey results and feedback with a trusted colleague or a professional coach on MountainMover, such that you can review areas of strength and areas of improvement, such that you can practice key skills in a targeted manner.

All surveys are anonymous and confidential, although you can share them within your network or publicly, only with your consent.

Goals and metrics

You can set SMART goals in collaboration with colleagues in your network and also publicly. For each goal, you can devise specific metrics or outcomes that capture what results are expected for the goal to be considered complete.

Mentorship and training

This is where I can work with a seasoned colleague whom I trust or a professional coach on MountainMover to practice in a targeted fashion the areas of improvement.

Peer dataset

I can view the anonymized datasets of both the top 10th percentile and the bottom 10th percentile of professionals in my field. I can see their goals and metrics and the results. Using this dataset, I can mirror their actions and ensure that I can attain success at work.

Career discovery

Since I, as well as most people, spend the majority of my life at work, I want to ensure that I choose a career wisely, where I can glorify Jesus Christ the most. I want to discern the career that is aligned with my purpose and my skills and talents.

The overall vision with this software is to connect people to their purpose in their careers and to help them be greatly successful in their work. I want to move mountains at work and help others do the same.

I will go more into detail on each component in later posts.
